Dr. Jasper Shealy is a Principal at Guidance Engineering. He specializes in human performance, ergonomics, and biomechanics related to snowsports accidents and injuries, as well as industrial applications of ergonomics to workplace design, process design and product design. Dr. Shealy has been involved in snowsports research since the late 1960’s and has published more than 80 technical papers dealing with various aspects of ski injury research, including overall trends; comparisons between skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing; fatalities; ski boot design; and, specific injury mechanisms. He is currently involved in an epidemiological study of skiing and snowsports injuries at the Sugarbush Resort in Vermont, which has been on-going since the 1972-1973 season. In addition to snowsport accidents, Dr. Shealy evaluates workplace design and practices in the context of human performance and ergonomic issues.
Dr. Shealy is a Professor Emeritus of Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and has served as an engineering professor since 1973. He is a member of the board of the International Society for Skiing Safety (ISSS) and has served as the chairman of the ASTM F27 committee for snow skiing. Dr. Shealy is one of three technical delegates for the United States at ISO meetings on matters relating to ski and snowboard issues. He is also the chair of the Statistics subcommittee and past chair of the Ski Boot subcommittee.
